Dr. Juha Vartiainen is the Co-Founder and Chief Global Affairs Officer of IQM Quantum Computers. He holds a doctorate in quantum computing from Helsinki University of Technology.

In 2018, Vartiainen co-founded IQM as a spin-out from Aalto University and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. He served as Chief Operating Officer from 2018 to 2023, during which IQM grew into one of the world’s leading quantum computing companies, developing and delivering full-stack superconducting quantum computers for research institutions, high-performance computing centres, universities, and enterprises globally.

Since 2023, Vartiainen has led IQM’s global affairs, working at the intersection of technology, industrial strategy, and geopolitics. He plays a central role in IQM’s engagement with governments, policymakers, and strategic partners worldwide, and in shaping the company’s positioning around sovereign quantum capability and the emerging global quantum economy.

Before IQM, Vartiainen worked in medical diagnostics and space technology. He has also contributed to international standardisation in ICT and quantum technologies through the Finnish Standards Association SFS and related ISO/IEC work.

Vartiainen is an active voice in European and global quantum policy discussions. He frequently represents Finland and IQM in international forums, including NATO’s Transatlantic Quantum Community, and has been quoted in leading media on Europe’s quantum strategy, industrial competitiveness, and the importance of scaling deep-tech companies from scientific excellence to global impact.
