Marina Santilli

Director, UCL Business

Marina specialises in deep tech commercialisation, particularly computer science-based inventions. She has played a pivotal role in the formation of many successful UCL spinouts since 2007 and advises widely on licensing strategies for both open-source and proprietary research-generated software.

In 2010 Marina conceived and developed E-lucid, an online platform to simplify licensing of intellectual property. The service is now sold to research institutions worldwide, generating significant revenue for them from previously hidden assets.

Beyond guiding UCLB’s spinout pipeline, Marina has introduced a range of initiatives that encourage and cultivate academic entrepreneurialism such as Portico Ventures for spinout licensing and the IO programme which transitions thinking from research-led to market-led opportunity assessment.

Prior to UCL Business, Marina was Director of Product Development at Verizon and worked in a software startup.
